Create New Opportunities with One Simple Act

 In Team Performance

No one loves summer more than I do. But when the air starts to feel crisp, I literally get butterflies (in a good way) as I say my goodbyes to lazy days, sandy beaches, and sunny days.

As much as I enjoy my annual beach vacation, I get a clear sense of anticipation as fall routines begin anew. The beginning of the school year brings a familiar discipline and direction. Life signals new potential as the leaves begin to change color. The days start to get shorter.

The Perfect Time for New Options
September offers a way to fall back to move forward. This is the final stretch in the year to regroup before it comes to a close. It’s my path to end the year more fully and successfully.

I find myself mentally scheming a thousand different possibilities right now. To sift through them all, I always make it a practice to unpack my year to date with one simple act. I block out quality time to examine these three questions:

  1. What changed over the last year?
  2. What shifted significantly?
  3. What do I want most now?

It’s no magic technique. It’s much more powerful than that. It’s a shift in attention toward ideas and goals I care about, a shift that empowers me to see things in a new light.

I invite you to join me in my September ritual. If you focus on these questions honestly, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at where your answers will take you.

Pause and reflect. What do you really want?

It could be as simple as a physical place you want to explore. Or as challenging as a win on a goal you’ve been working on (seemingly) forever. Perhaps it is as elusive as creating a lasting, calm peace deep within you.

Whatever is most important to you this fall, visualize it fully.

You have the power to go there.

Sure, you could hit the “later” button (yet) again. And stay your same course straight ahead (never veering sharply toward what you really want).

Turn that auto pilot switch off for a while. Redefine your year and follow your vision.

Trust Yourself
When you choose what matters most, your efforts will magnify your gains. You’ll be clearer when decisions come your way. You’ll find your path becomes brighter. Your pace feels a little swifter. And when results appear at the end of 2019, you’ll more fully appreciate how you got them and what really counts.

You’re the only one who knows what you truly want.

Take a stand. Grab your courage. Embrace all of the possibilities.
